Farewell Mrs Boyer

On Tuesday the 11th of December 2012 there was a farewell assembly for Mrs Boyer. All of the classes participated in the assembly. There were 7 groups dedicating their creative dance or song to Mrs Boyer. Families came to the assembly to cheer for their child or children.

My favourite part was when Salelei was dancing with his group. Mrs Boyer was surprised to see her daughter Renee and her grand daughter Ember. After my group and I finished our performance I gave Mrs Boyer her present.

Tahuna Torea Wetlands

Our next Inquiry  is about caring for the environment. We are researching wetland areas around Auckland. These photos were taken at Tahuna Torea last week. The whole school is walking to this wetland area on Monday 26th November to find information about the birds, reptiles, insects and fish that make the wetlands their home. This video is to ignite our curiosity and start us asking questions. If you know any information that might help us, we'd really appreciate it if you would share it with us.

Powhiri

Kia Ora, In term 3 Room 10 studied Maori culture. We learned about protocol on the marae. We created a wharenui in our classroom and we are sharing our knowledge by making this movie. Enjoy and learn. Ka kite.

Yesterday Mr Munick came to school to film us doing our powhiri with room 7. First Kyana, Sommer and I had to do the Karanga to call room 7 in to our class room. When room 7 came right into our classroom the boys started to chant the haka called "Toia Mai." We had to chant the haka twice. Then Brandon had to do his mihi in Maori. We had to sing a waiata. We learned a lot about the protocols used on the marae.

Label Reading

Make your own photo slideshow at Animoto.
Last week, Room 10 were lucky enough to go to Pak n Save  in Glen Innes to learn about reading labels on food packaging. Ainslie, from Food for Thought, was our guide. We searched for the healthiest options in various food categories such as breads, cereals, snacks and yoghurts. It was an interesting and enlightening learning experience. Pak n Save also gave our class a $60 voucher so we could choose food to create a healthy lunch at school. We are still deciding on our menu. We will post another video to show you our lunch.

Name Stories

Hi everyone,
We have been learning how to make movies with Mr Munnick. We have practised speaking clearly, looking at the camera as well as the tekkie stuff like inserting music, adding and deleting clips and using effects. This is our first published movie. We hope you enjoy it.

On Wednesday 14th of April, Glenbrae students all helped to make a healthy lunch for everyone to share.
Room 10 decided to make healthy pizzas. We made vegetable pizzas because we had been studying soil and plants and vegetables are plants that grow food that is really good for us.
Here is the recipe. We hope you make your own pizza because they taste so good.

Ingredients
large pita bread for the base
pizza tomato sauce base
sliced mushrooms
sliced green and red peppers
sliced courgette
shredded pineapple
finely grated parmesan cheese
  Method
Carefully wash your hands and put on latex gloves.  Spread a generous amount of pizza tomato sauce over the whole base. Add a thin layer of each different vegetables, then add the pineapple.
Finally sprinkle a small amount of parmesan cheese over the top.
Bake in a hot oven ( 190C) for 12 minutes. Remove carefully, cut into slices and enjoy.
Delicious.
Everyone at the shared lunch gobbled up our pizzas very quickly.

Swimming Lesson 9

We have had 9 swimming lessons from our instructors now. The first part of this video is Group 3 and you can see how well their freestyle stroke is developing.
The second part shows group 2. They are getting more confident all the time.
Sadly, we have only one more lesson to go this year but hopefully our parents will take us to the pools so we can keep improving.
