Matariki

Tane Mahuta the king of Sea Creatures and the Seven Mermaids.

Hooray!! Early in the morning the seven Mermaids were swimming around in the deep blue sea having fun.The Mermaids got really hungry and went looking for snapper. When they caught the snapper they cooked it in the fire under water.

After the Mermaids finished eating they heard Tane Mahuta the King of sea creatures coming.

They tried to hide, but Tane kidnapped the seven Mermaids because he wanted to eat them.

The Mermaids tried to beg Tane to let them go. Tane screamed, “ No! You’re mine to eat!”
The Mermaids tried to trick him.One of them pretended to be sick and they tried to get the keys off Tane, but it didn’t work.

Finally, they escaped by picking the lock with one of the Mermaids hair clips. They escaped from the cage.

Now they were free at last. The Mermaids ask for protection from the God of the Ocean.

Tane disappeared into the deep blue sea, but Tane returned and grabbed hold of the seven Mermaids and threw them so high into the sky, that they became the seven stars of Matariki. Every year the mermaids shine so bright that you can see them and remember them.

Glen Innes library

Today, Room 7 and 8 from Glenbrae School walked to Glen Innes library to hear Vasanti Unka talk about her new book 'Hill and Hole'. It was a gorgeous day for a walk and we made it in record time. It was really interesting listening to how Vasanti made the pictures for her book - a mix of traditional painting and digital art. We think her illustrations go perfectly with the story. We hope you learn something too.
We are very lucky at Glenbrae School because we have lots of lovely deciduous trees that drop their colourful leaves at this time of the year. Everyone loves playing in the leaves. Today, Danielle, Gemima and Gabriel joined the juniors having great fun throwing and playing in them.

We Enjoyed Cooking

On March 2011, we had carrots, garlic, potatoes, herbs, kumera, parsley, pepper, oil and salt. The people who were there were Hannah, Lisiate, Christian, Jerome and Mrs Palmer. We invited Miss Elia to have some of our healthy food. It was ready in 40 minutes We were glad it was ready. Hannah ate the garlic all by itself. Her mouth was hot and spicy so she spat it outside the hall. After Hannah, it was me that ate the garlic. Miss Elia said it was nice. She really liked it. Lisiate was smelling the food. He even closed his eyes so it looked like he was sleeping. The food looked yucky, but it was fabulous. It had no meat.

Smelling Roasty

On March the 17th, the gardeners made roasted potatoes.
We added vegetables with no meat. We added in potatoes, silver beets, herbs, kumera, carrots, garlic and a little bit of salt and pepper.
Later on, at morning tea, I went to check in the kitchen in the hall and suddenly Mrs Palmer excitedly said, “Lisiate come on let’s take a picture of you smelling the food”.
She took a picture of me. The food smelled very roasty.
